Career Overview

  • Dr. Richard Bedrosian has over 40 years of experience treating depression, addictions, career and work performance issues, relationship difficulties, and the aftereffects of adverse child experiences and trauma.

As a postdoc at University of Pennsylvania, he was personally trained by Dr. Aaron T. Beck, known as the Father of Cognitive Therapy. He is profoundly grateful for all the clinical skills he learned from Dr. Beck, and for the example Dr, Beck set as a therapy supervisor.

Throughout his career, Dr. Bedrosian has had leadership roles in both clinical and corporate settings, so he is uniquely qualified to help high-achieving clients with career and work-life balance concerns. He has experienced firsthand the unique challenges associated with starting and running a business, enabling him to be a trusted resource for entrepreneurs.

  • Dr. Bedrosian has helped to expand the scope of cognitive therapy. He was one of the earliest authors to integrate family therapy and cognitive therapy. Moreover, he and Dr. George Bozicas were among the first practitioners to develop a cognitive-behavioral framework for treating survivors of adverse childhood experiences and trauma, publishing a book on the subject, Treating Family of Origin Problems: A Cognitive Approach over thirty years ago.

His practice, Bedrosian Associates, was one of the first to offer cognitive-behavioral therapy in Massachusetts.

Dr. Bedrosian was a pioneer in developing self-help Internet programs for improving mental and physical health. As the founder of MySelfHelp.com, he created a family of online mental health programs. Successive iterations of those programs were used by hundreds of thousands of people.

In recognition of his groundbreaking work, Dr. Bedrosian was awarded a Distinguished Lifetime Contribution Award from the American Psychological Association’s Society for Media Psychology and Technology.

  • Beginning in his years at Dr. Beck’s Center for Cognitive Therapy and for decades thereafter, Dr. Bedrosian has trained and supervised scores of cognitive-behavioral therapists, many of whom went on to become leaders in the field.

As an Instructor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School for over thirty years, he has contributed to the professional development of successive generations of psychology interns and psychiatry residents. He personally supervised the psychotherapists who worked in his group practice and continues to serve as a clinical consultant to mental health clinicians in the US and abroad.

In recent years, Dr. Bedrosian has spent considerable time as a volunteer in Armenia, where he has trained graduate students and practicing clinicians from all disciplines.

In his leisure time, Dr. Bedrosian enjoys playing keyboards in a funk band, hiking in the mountains and woods, volunteering in his community, and spending time with loved ones.
